Ethiopia is spending $US 1.3 billion, 10 per cent of its GDP, annually on infrastructural development. This is said to be easily the highest percentage in Africa, according to an article by writers from the South African Institute of international Affairs.

Various religious institutions have expressed their readiness in mobilizing their followers towards the fight against poverty and backwardness.
A three-day national dialogue forum co-organized by the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia (IRCE) and its partners is underway in Addis Ababa since December 17, 2012.
Religious leaders on the occasion said that Ethiopia is a host of various religious communities that live in respect, peace and tolerance. However, some unfamiliar conflicts under the disguise of religion were instigated by foreign elements.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom held talks on Monday with United Nations delegation led by Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNAIDS, Michel Sidibé. The Executive Director ,who heads up the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, UNAIDS, congratulated the Minister on his new position before offering condolences on the untimely passing of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi .

State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhane Gebrechristos, yesterday signed a legal framework agreement for international institutional cooperation with Abby Maxman, Vice-President of International Programs and Operations, CARE USA.
The agreement enables CARE USA to set up an International Program and Operations Office in Ethiopia, and creates favorable conditions and an appropriate environment for the activities of the office.

 
Ethiopia begins electricity export to neighboring Sudan PDF Print E-mail

Ethiopia has started a test run of electricity supply to neighboring Sudan, according to state power utility, Ethiopian Electric and Power Corporation (EEPCo).
Head of EEPCo, Mihret Debeb, said that Ethiopia has been testing the power supply tests since the completion of the Ethiopia-Sudan transmission line.
The 230kV cross-border transmission line stretches for 296km from Ethiopia to Sudan.
