Ethiopia and France on Thursday signed an 11 million birr aid agreement to help fund the Addis Ababa light railway project.
The project covers a total of 37.381 kilometers of railway running across the capital, from north to south and from east to west.

The U.S. should reassess its support for the government of Ethiopia, amid concern that more than half a million people are being evicted to make land available for foreign investment in agriculture, advocacy groups including the Oakland Institute said.
A meeting tomorrow between President Barack Obama and Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, among other African leaders, presents an opportunity for the U.S. to address the issue, the California-based group said in a joint statement with the Solidarity Movement for a New Ethiopia, or SMNE. The U.S. has provided aid worth more than $1 billion a year since 2007 to Ethiopia, according to the statement.

Eleven People to Face Terror Charges in Ethiopia

Ethiopia’s federal court ruled Thursday that 11 people should face terror charges after prosecutors said they formed a cell with an al-Qaida-linked group from neighboring Somalia, according to AP report.
The charges come amid signs of increasing militancy in the East African nation. Ethiopian troops moved into Somalia at the beginning of the year to fight the Somali militant group al-Shabab.

The Ethiopian Roads Authority announced the completion of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) for the 105-kms Konso-Yabelo Proposed Road Project.
The civil work of the project will be financed by the government and the World Bank.

Diageo, the world's leading premium drinks company, announced today that it has signed letters of intent to foster partnerships and projects that will aid in the agricultural development of Ethiopia and Tanzania. Diageo will work to develop and implement a scalable barley farming project in Sebeta, Ethiopia and a scalable sorghum value chain project in Mogoro, Tanzania. The projects when fully realized will represent an overall investment of $1.5M in Ethiopia and $2M in Tanzania and will begin to be implemented in 2012. They build on Diageo's commitment to support the development of agricultural economies in Africa, a business imperative in line with the Company's growth ambitions across the continent.

Ethiopia and Sudan on Wednesday signed a judicial agreement on the extradition of criminals.

The agreement which was signed in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, between Ethiopia’s Minister of Justice, Birhan Hailu and his Sudanese counterpart, Mohamed Bushara aims to jointly tackle crime, criminality, enhance regional peace and promote justice in general.
Signing the pact, Hailu said the new judicial accord will boost their existing multi-lateral cooperation and further enhance diplomatic relations between the countries.

In an exclusive interview with WIC today, Dr Mulugeta Fisseha, Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Science at AAU, said Ethiopia needs to focus on ecotourism to benefit more from the sector.

Ethiopia calls on investors from the United Arab Emirates to take advantage of the investment enabling climate said, Taddesse Haile, State Ministry Industry speaking at forum organized by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association.
Investors can expect high return from investment opportunities in Ethiopia because of the low price of land, cheap labor and conducive investment environment according to Tadesse. Ethiopia also has a range of incentives in place to encourage investment he noted.
